Remote work, lockdown, self-isolation – these are phrases that, in very short time, have become daily reality for many of us.
Remote work is a new phenomenon when, due to the situation, some people work from home, pupils and students study, write essays and final coursework. However, after a week of working on a computer sitting on a sofa, on a bed or at a kitchen and dining table, we notice that our body lets us know about the time spent in a not very comfortable sitting position.
We also notice tension between household members, collapsed schedules and routines. Kėdžių centras advises, based on recommendations from chair ergonomics and mental health specialists:
Keep your routine as much the same as possible
Create private work and rest areas for yourself and your household
Pay attention to healthy sitting during work
Avoid social and emotional isolation
Keep your routine as much the same as possible
Let’s try not to change the daily routine we are used to. Let’s eat, get up and go to bed at our usual time. If we are used to having coffee/tea with a friend or colleague, let’s arrange a time together and do it remotely using a phone or other video streaming application.
However difficult it may be to work from home, let’s have specific hours in the day. If it’s easier to concentrate, we can even change into work clothes, dress up, etc.
This will help us plan our day better and get more done. Remote working can also be productive.
Create private rest and work areas for yourself and your household
Privacy and solitude are the ultimate luxury during quarantine, especially for those with young children living in small urban apartments. There is little time for yourself, and boundaries are dissolved.
Discuss with family members how to create these private areas, keeping part of the room, even for a limited time during the day, for your sporting activities, meditation, reading a book, watching your favourite TV series, work activities.
We often find that several family members use the same work desk at home. At the same time, several members of the household may want to sit down at the desk to play computer games, chat with friends or study, but there is no space and no time for your direct work activities. Remote working is stuck.
It’s worth considering whether it’s time to set up an extra workstation that you can then share with other family members. A height-adjustable desk is highly recommended for the home environment. With a touch of a button, you can easily raise and lower the tabletop to the height you need, so it’s suitable for both sitting and standing, and can be shared by all family members of different heights.
Let’s pay attention to healthy sitting during work
It is very important to properly assess how many hours we spend sitting at work. Whether we sit down for just a few hours or whether we work at home for a full 8-hour working day. The choice should be made between chairs designed for sitting for 4 hours, 6 hours or 8 hours.
What is the difference between work chairs?
Chairs designed for 4-6 hours of sitting have little adjustment, normally you can only change height of a chair seat, and in some cases you can adjust the seat back to some extent.
8-hour sitting chairs can be exclusively adjusted according to your seating needs or habits.
Ergonomically molded chair backs follow the spine curve and support back and lumbar muscles. Adjustable height of the backrest allows setting the chair backrest in the most comfortable way for your body shape and height. Seat depth adjustment function is particularly important in an ergonomic office chair if the chair is shared by several people of different heights. It is important to make sure that there is a gap of 4-6 cm between the legs of a person sitting and the front of the chair seat. It is a good idea to have a work chair with height-adjustable armrests. If a chair is used by several people of different heights in a family, each of them will be able to adjust the height to suit them, so that when they sit, the elbows are bent at a 90-degree angle to the table.
Kėdžių centras promotes ACTIVE SITTING.
When sitting is unavoidable and your lifestyle is static, SITNESS or DONDOLA active sitting work chairs are the best choice.
Patented SITNESS and DONDOLA technologies in office chairs ensure a three-dimensional sitting position, replicating your movements and resembling sitting on a ball (Body Balance Tec mechanism). Sitting with ACTIVE SITTING mechanisms guarantees more active sitting experience. Your back muscles are exercised without you knowing it, which helps prevent or reduce back pain.
Advantages of Sitness and Dondola
- Train back muscles
- Relax intervertebral discs in the spine
- Guarantee movement while sitting
- Stimulate blood circulation
- Improve attention and motivation
Avoid social and emotional isolation
Seek help from others or provide help yourself. By helping each other, we realize that we are not alone and that we need support in this difficult situation. Let’s maintain and renew contact with relatives and friends, and let’s make a list to contact at least one of them every day.
Wish us all good health!
